Adam Friedman, president and ceo
Friedman is currently in production on A&E Biographies of Dolly
Parton and NASCAR; an A&E Special: Celebrity Home Video; two
new series for iNDEMAND, the HD network; Mr. Know It All, a pilot for
The History Channel; documentaries on racing legends Parnelli Jones and
Alex Zanardi; as well as developing the first original scripted
dramatic series for the Discovery Networks, EYES ONLY.
He is also prepping the television movie They All Wore Blue, an A&E
Networks/Fox Television Studios co-production. He also is in
post-production on a film that he wrote, directed, and produced titled
And She Was… starring Patrick Warburton and Brad Dourif. In
addition Adam is developing the Joe R. Lansdale novel A Fine Dark Line
as a feature film. Lansdale is currently writing the
script.
And that is only the first two months of 2006…
Adam has served as Executive Producer on more than twenty-four
Biographies for the A&E Network including the Emmy Award nominated
Biography of John Travolta; the CINE Golden Eagle Award winning
Biographies for Kevin Costner, The Rock, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester
Stallone; the Telly Award winning Biographies for Val Kilmer and
Richard Gere; and the Cable Ace Award Winning Series EPIC BIOGRAPHIES.
He also produced The Crash of Flight 191, a 90-minute Special for The
History Channel, which won the New York Festival Gold World Medal, CINE
Golden Eagle and Silver Telly awards. He followed that in 2005
with The Secrets of the Black Box, also for History, which won a Silver
Telly for the episode The Crash of Flight 007.
In 2004, Adam wrote and directed three cutting-edge promos for CHAMP
Car‰ and Spike-TV. Friedman sent a 750 horsepower race car
screaming through Times Square and the streets of New York. The
spots became the most downloaded videos on the Champ Car website.
Adam began his career in similar style. While still in college,
he convinced ABC Television to let him direct a documentary entitled
Wolves In Winter, about jazz musician Paul Winter and the first
inter-species jam session, featuring a pack of wolves and Winter.
Wolves In Winter was nominated for three Emmy Awards. His next
directing effort, Color Me Blue won him his first Emmy Award for
Outstanding Documentary Program as well as the New York State
Broadcasting Award.
Expanding his horizons, Adam jumped into the world of Music Videos,
working with The Rolling Stones, Hall and Oates, and Jean Luc Ponty and
the Joffrey Ballet. His Rolling Stones Emotional Rescue video was
part of the Whitney Biennial. And his video Big Mouth for the rap
group Whodini is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of
Modern Art.
After directing 50 music videos, Adam wrote the feature film Rappin’
for Cannon Pictures (“the street sensation that’s sweepin’ the
nation”). He even wrote three of the songs for the film’s hip hop
soundtrack, but his daughter will disown him if he mentions it.
Shortly thereafter, he made his feature film directing debut with
Medium Straight. The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival; it
received the Best in Show Award at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival,
and at the Seattle International Film Festival…
“Medium Straight was the major surprise hit of our line-up . . .
Receiving a crowd response unlike anything we saw in the other
festivals screenings which included Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues, and
Charles Burnett’s To Sleep with Anger.”
-Darryl MacDonald, Director,
Seattle Film Festival
In 1991, Adam started Perpetual Motion Films, his first production
company. Under the Perpetual Motion Films banner Adam produced
over 120 hours of documentary programming including the award-winning
series Masters of War, Air Combat, and the A&E series EPIC
BIOGRAPHY focusing on historical figures like Michelangelo, George
Washington, and Ben Franklin. The work won A&E a Cable Ace
Award for Best Documentary Series, and the Ben Franklin, Michelangelo
and Washington Bios have been number 1 or 2 atop the Amazon.com
documentary sales charts for over 15 years.
Adam returned to feature films, directing the thriller To Sleep with a
Vampire for Roger Corman. Vampire was selected for the
prestigious Avoriaz Film Festival and won the Academy of Science
Fiction & Fantasy Award for Best Film.
“Adam Friedman does an incredible job, reinventing the genre and
bringing artistry to ‘Vampire.’”
-Roger Corman on To Sleep with a
Vampire
Adam Friedman, along with Bill Evashwick founded Traveling Light in
February of 2002. Their goal was to: “Create an environment where
the best supplant the many; where money goes on the screen instead of
paying an exorbitant overhead. A lean and mean crew also gives us
a quicker response time. We travel light and that enables us to
move . . . at the speed of light.”
Adam Friedman and Traveling Light have provided quality programming for
a number of networks such as HBO, Spike TV, A&E, The Travel
Channel, The History Channel, Court TV, and Discovery. Adam and
Traveling Light will continue to produce entertaining television
programming of the highest quality, while expanding into other arenas,
including feature films. In four short years, Adam has taken
Traveling Light to the top of their field.
